Fireboy DML Ft. JAZZWRLD & Thukuthela – Imali

A refreshing connection between Nigerian Afrobeats and South African musical influences comes to life as talented singer and songwriter Fireboy DML collaborates with JAZZWRLD and Thukuthela on an exciting song titled “Imali.” The recording serves as the sixth track on Fireboy DML’s fifth studio album, “ZUKO!”, adding a distinctive Southern African flavour to the thirteen-track project.

“Imali” is a word commonly used in isiZulu and other Southern African languages to mean “money.” The title introduces a familiar subject that connects with everyday experiences, financial aspirations, and the importance of economic stability. Its use also reflects the growing cultural exchange between Nigerian and South African musicians within the contemporary African entertainment industry.

For Fireboy DML, this collaboration represents another opportunity to explore musical influences beyond his established Afrobeats and R&B background. Known for his expressive vocals and emotionally engaging songwriting, the YBNL Nation artist has continued to develop his sound through creative partnerships and an appreciation for different African musical traditions.

The involvement of JAZZWRLD and Thukuthela brings a South African creative presence to “Imali.” Their participation highlights the increasingly close relationship between the Nigerian and South African music scenes, where artists continue to exchange ideas and introduce audiences to different languages, rhythms, and musical identities.

South African music has gained significant international attention through genres such as Amapiano, while Nigerian Afrobeats has maintained its position as one of Africa’s most influential contemporary sounds. Collaborations involving musicians from both countries demonstrate how these musical cultures can connect and contribute to the wider development of African popular music.

Within the “ZUKO!” album, “Imali” occupies the sixth position, following “C’Est La Vie” and preceding “One Man Regiment.” Its placement introduces a Southern African linguistic and cultural element near the middle of the project, providing another dimension to Fireboy DML’s fifth studio release.

The song’s title also gives it a relatable identity. Money remains an important subject in everyday conversations, influencing personal ambitions, responsibilities, relationships, and the pursuit of a better life. By using the word “Imali,” the recording connects this universal subject with a distinctly African expression.

Following his 2024 album, “Adedamola,” Fireboy DML continues expanding his musical catalogue through “ZUKO!” The project features collaborations with Judah Earl, Masicka, Lojay, JAZZWRLD, and Thukuthela, bringing together different artistic backgrounds while maintaining his recognizable presence throughout the album.

One of the interesting qualities of “Imali” is its cross-cultural appeal. The collaboration connects audiences familiar with Nigerian contemporary music to performers associated with the South African music scene, reflecting the growing importance of creative partnerships across the African continent.

For listeners who appreciate Naija Music, South Africa Music, Afrobeats, Amapiano-influenced African music, and contemporary Afro-pop, “Imali” is a noteworthy selection from “ZUKO!”. Its combination of Nigerian and South African talent makes it particularly relevant to fans exploring the diversity of modern African music.

Beyond its position on the album, “Imali” demonstrates Fireboy DML’s interest in working with musicians from different cultural backgrounds. Such collaborations contribute to the continued exchange of African musical ideas while introducing listeners to new artists and expressions.

With “Imali,” Fireboy DML joins forces with JAZZWRLD and Thukuthela to deliver another distinctive entry on “ZUKO!”, highlighting the creative relationship between Nigerian and South African music within his fifth studio album.
