For years, a brilliant engineer secretly prepares for the catastrophe he believes is coming. But instead of being taken seriously, he becomes the laughingstock of everyone around him. His wife mocks his preparations, while her arrogant high-school ex-boyfriend ridicules him as a paranoid doomsday fanatic obsessed with an imaginary apocalypse.
Then the impossible happens.

Civilization collapses almost overnight. As chaos spreads and survival becomes a daily battle, the people who once laughed at him realize that he was the only one who saw the disaster coming. Hidden beneath the ground is the high-tech bunker he spent years designing and building, stocked with everything needed to survive the collapse.

Desperate and terrified, his wife and her former lover eventually arrive at his heavily secured shelter, begging for protection. But the man they humiliated is no longer willing to forget their betrayal. With the outside world consumed by destruction and enemies closing in, he must decide who deserves a place inside the fortress—and who must face the consequences of abandoning him when he needed them most.
