East meets West on “Bumpy Ride,” the tenth track from Harmonize's newly released 31 album. The Tanzanian Bongo Flava star links up with Nigerian Afropop heavyweight Mayorkun, delivering a cross-border collaboration that blends Harmonize's East African musical identity with Mayorkun's polished Nigerian sound. The song is officially listed as Track 10 on the 14-track project.
Built around an upbeat and easy-moving rhythm, “Bumpy Ride” carries a playful, feel-good atmosphere. Harmonize and Mayorkun approach the record with smooth melodies and confident vocals, creating a song that feels more celebratory and flirtatious than heavy or introspective. The title itself plays into the idea of an exciting journey, giving the track a lively character that fits comfortably within contemporary African pop.
Harmonize establishes the song with his melodic Bongo Flava delivery, while Mayorkun brings his familiar Afropop touch to the collaboration. Their different vocal styles work without either artist dominating the record, making the song feel like a genuine meeting of two African pop sounds rather than a forced crossover.
At approximately 2:58, “Bumpy Ride” keeps its arrangement concise and energetic. Its position in the album is also significant: after the emotionally driven “Siwezi,” “Loser,” and “Imeshindikana,” the track provides a noticeable change in atmosphere and gives 31 another burst of lighter energy.
The collaboration also continues Harmonize's long-running connection with Nigerian artists on 31. Alongside Wande Coal on “Beautiful (Remix)”, Mayorkun adds another major Nigerian presence to an album deliberately built around collaborations from different parts of Africa.
As Track 10 of 14, “Bumpy Ride” serves as an energetic transition into the final stretch of 31, setting up the remaining collaborations with Qing Madi, Stonebwoy, Darkoo, Yemi Alade and Mohamed Ramadan.
